the remains of the daysof the bush administration
are fear and failure
anyone who tries to rewrite
the miserable legacy of this presidency
will be reminded that it was
the bush-cheney-rove reign of tyranny
that brought on the tsunami
of hundreds of thousands of people
hundreds of thousands
in all areas of the country
coming out to hear and believe a new voice
of courage and brilliance and calm
in a man whose election defines the end of the civil war
as well as the one in iraq
i find it hard to thank the charlatans
who created this disaster, which at some point prompted
the young and the disenfranchised to discover
what the rest of us should have remembered...
and that is who we are as a people
i find it hard
because it is too late for the ones who died
in a war that was waged on dishonorable premise--
based on facts shaped around a policy
instead of the other way around--
which was not in defense of our freedom
but to avenge our corporate greed
we have borne such a deficit of hope
as cannot be replenished for as long as it takes
to grieve and forgive these last 8 years
